A couple of days ago, Jazz gradually stopped eating her kibble. This is strange, because she's on an appetite stimulant and her appetite even on the off pill day was doing very well.
Yesterday she turned her nose up to the kibble completely. She barely showed any interest in the Fancy Feast Salmon gushy food, either. What little she ate she ended up vomiting back up. This was Not Good...
Brought her into the vet first thing this morning. Here's the skinny:
**some of her kidney functions are a little higher than her last blood draw.
**Albumin (an indicator of liver function) was a smidge lower than normal range. This is related to the not eating and vomiting. This is an area of concern, though Dr. B. didn't seem too terribly worried about it just yet. We're to keep an eye out for yellowing of the ears to indicate the problem is worsening for over the weekend. (This definitely freaks my shit out--I've lost a cat to fatty liver disease, which is a disease that sets in if a cat doesn't eat for over 48 hours. The clock is ticking...)
**Xrays: show a fair amount of gas and stool in her colon. This could be related to her appetite/vomiting. She's been put on a mega-dose of our old favorite (not) laxative Enulose (Diva used to take it for her chronic constipation--she's now on miralax) over the weekend to see if it knocks things loose by Monday. If not, I'm sure we'll be going back to the vet for an enema, which he doesn't want to do unless he absolutely has to. Her lungs and heart look fine, thank Christ.
She's back on Reglan, an anti-nausea drug she was on for a few days around Christmas before she started acting goofy and we had to take her off it. I'm sure she'll start acting goofy again, no doubt, but we need to put her on it to help ensure that what she eats stays down. We need to monitor her intake and output, so she's going to be sequestered in our bedroom for the weekend. We had her sequestered in there with me last night and it went alright, so hopefully the trend will continue.
I'm to feed her whatever I think she'll eat. I'm going for the big gun--tuna--as our first go-round after her Reglan has had 30 minutes to percolate in her guts. I pray it stays down. If it doesn't, or she turns her nose up to it, I'll be calling the vet back again to see what plan B is. I'm sure force feeding will end up being put to the fore eventually. I dread that...
I'm scared for my baby. I can't imagine life without her and I'm DEFINITELY not ready to lose her yet. She's 17--I don't have much more time with her, I know, but I think she should still have at least a little more quality time left. Dammit, why do they have to get old and sick? :(
