Odessa, the cat we were fostering for the shelter we volunteer for, is back at the freshly opened shelter. The guest bath has been cleaned, the "girls'" litter box is back in its place, and the door is always open again. Back to normal for the girls.

Does this mean all is well? Not exactly...:/ Interestingly while the box was in the hallway when Odessa occupied the guest bath Jazz mostly peed and pooped inside the box. She only started peeing outside the box (on the closed guest bath door, I might add...) about a week before Odessa was to return to the shelter. Jazz has also taken to pooping outside the box again...UGH!!

Jazz is pretty much back to NOT peeing in the box at all again and is shitting outside the box half the time as well. :/ Mama is not a happy camper, though I must say I'm not surprised. I did clean the guest bath well with Nature's Miracle urine buster type formula before I left the door open and put the box back in there. Don't want to use bleach on the grout on the floor, so...Don't know whether she's acting out because she smells the lingering smells of Odessa or if it's lingering smells from her own past behavior. I doubt anything is wrong with her physically so I've not called the vet about it. She's 19 years old and has a history of messing outside of the box--makes sense to me she'd go back to old habits once she got a chance.

I must admit it's a bit frustrating to have to clean up after Jazz again after a couple month's respite...I was hoping she was broken of the bad potty habits, I really was. Guess old habits die hard. :/ So now I'm back to wiping up piss puddles in the guest bath a few times a day and cleaning up poop piles just outside the litter box in the mornings half the time...I just keep telling myself it's all a part her aging process, to try to be patient with her. Nothing can really be done about it--we tried medication last year and all it did was make her hold in her urine and not pee enough without the help of another medication to get her bladder to contract. I doubt putting the box back in the hallway and closing the door to the guest bath will work because she started peeing on the closed door last week...I dunno. I'm at a loss. :/

In other news, Diva has NOT wet outside the box for almost a week! YAY! She's doing fine. A little pukey every now and again with the Enulose we give her to make her pooper work better, but otherwise doing well. :) *knocks wood*

Ra is doing well, too. Not puking anymore now that he's regulated on his thyroid meds. He could be eating better at times, but otherwise he's doing well.

Good for you for putting up with all that... So many people would choose not to do anything, so it's good to know that some of you are out there with cats! :-D
