Three days without a download from either of them, finally there were results of my "concoction" (miralax, benefiber, squash and wet food). Had trouble discerning who's it was, but gave my best guess that it was Diva. Ergo, Jazz would need to go to the vet to get checked to see if she was plugged up again.
Take Jazz to the vet. Dr. B. palpated her tummy--not much there. Xrays--not much there! Did I guess the wrong cat? Only way to know would be to go back home, switch cats, and have Diva examined. Dr. B. said not to bother. Could I keep the girls separated? Yes, we could; Diva could go back to her hidey hole in the guest room for awhile. "Just a few days to see who's pooping," Dr. B said.
Meanwhile, it was decided to put Jazz on the expensive drug Cisapride to help with her gut motility. At $56 per ounce (a month's supply at 1cc a day)...yeah. Evidently it's a two-month trial--first month at 1cc daily, then 1cc every other day the second month if we notice improvement in the form of more poops. Thing is, I'm doing the food concoction at the same time so it'll be difficult to know which is doing the job--or if both are...Don't dare stop the food concoction for fear of everything stopping up, though. Dr. B mentioned cats can become enema dependent, in which case he would show us how to use suppositories vs. water based enemas. :(
He also suggested we give Jazz one 4.25oz tube of Laxatone hairball formula to grease the works over the course of four days. That's a quarter of a tube a day for a six pound cat. What the hell, we'll try it. :/ We had tuna flavored Laxatone from last year for Diva that was still good; tried that and Jazz wouldn't touch the stuff. Go to Petco in the town over (ours closed last year--bummer) and pick up a tube of "Cat" flavor, whatever that is. All I know is it smelled like coffee flavoured ice cream. That went over even LESS well. Tried feeding her some--she actively spit it out. Tried the tuna flavour again--she actively spit that out as well. It's too thick to put in a syringe and shoot down the throat. What to do?
Call the vet. Change in plans. Lactulose at double the dose for four days. I daresay that shit doesn't work, as neither of the girls seem to shit from that stuff, but what the hell? We've got most of a 16oz bottle of the stuff, we might as well use it, right?
Meanwhile Diva's spending most of her waking hours sleeping under the blankets on the bed in the guest bedroom unless it's feeding time or J or I are in there with her. I feel so guilty leaving her in there, but we've got to for the time being. She isn't sleeping more than she normally does, nor does she seem actively depressed, but I worry that could happen. About all I can do is spend time in there with her throughout the day and see what happens. The plan is I'll sleep in there every other night to keep her company. I would do every night but if I do that Jazz gets depressed and misses sleeping with me in the master bed. It's so hard, dammit, to equally and fairly divide my time between the both of them...
To say I'm stressed is an understatement. This is all new to me, dealing with TWO constipated cats and one in the beginning stages of megacolon so we have to be extra careful. Segregating Diva out of the regular mix of kittehs in the house is so hard. She's a lump most of the time, but she's a welcome lump to see sunning herself in the sunbeam of the sliding door in the den. Or as a lump in her "bucket" bed she stole from Ra. ;) Le sigh. I'm afraid to leave them for very long. I've got an appointment in Kenosha on Monday at 1500...J has to work so the girls will be on their own without their regularly scheduled feeds from 1300 til he gets home from work if he can leave early or I get home around 1800. That's hard. :/ It's a therapy appointment, so I don't want to cancel it, but...who comes first? Me or the girls? Such a hard question. They're like my kids for Christ's sake. ARGH!!! :/
