Diva is getting back to normal. She was active again last night, spending much of her time last night laying on the now-empty top of the night stand. ;) She didn't pester me as much, but she was still a bit of a pest. That's okay, though. :)

We weren't home much of the day, so we didn't spend much time with her, but she was happy to see us when we got home and took a nap with her. By the time we got home around 1600 she'd eaten all but a few kibbles of her scoop of kibble and all of her 1/4 can of A/D was gone within 10 minutes of receiving the bowl. Still not drinking as much as she was before she crashed on the 11th, but that's probably a good thing since she's getting the fluids sub-q. Output is doing alright.

She's gotten two doses of epakitin supplement which I mix into 1/8 can of A/D. Both Diva and Jazz think this new development in there day is just fine and dandy! Jazz had her portion down in mere minutes, Diva took a little longer, but she always has. This dosing mechanism should work well.

I've done a little reading on epakitin and other supplements of its ilk and what they do is help the kidneys absorb less phosphorous, which delays worsening of renal failure. I've not been able to find any negative side effects for epakitin so far, so if it helps...yeah. Not like there's any real way to know if it's doing its job, but if I can get it on the cheap online and it won't hurt my girls any, then I think it's worth it.

I got a 15% off entire purchase coupon for PetSmart in my inbox the other day so we decided to check to see if they had any ginormous litter boxes. They had one that was FREAKING HUGE for 30 bucks. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4217936&lmdn=Brand The Jumbo truly is JUMBO! 24”L x 19”W x 18.5”H We hope it'll help the thinking outside the box problem. The old box is 20"L X 14 1/2"W X 18"H, so this one's definitely longer. The trick will be for her to walk further in...We're probably going to try to leave the door on it for added piss protection. Every other enclosed box with a door I've bought in the past I've taken off the door, so I don't know how they'll react to it. We shall see. Diva won't see it until she comes out into the rest of the house on Monday. We just loaded it with litter a few minutes ago--time to wait and see if anyone uses it before we go to bed. Ra was sitting in it when it was empty and we closed the lid on him and he couldn't really figure out how to get out. He was pulling it in towards himself, not pushing it open. Whoops. I hope no one gets stuck in there! Not that we have dumb cats by any means, but they *are* senior cats without knowledge of double hinged doors, so...If we hear caterwauling in the middle of the night we'll know where to go look first.;)

So, yeah. I think things are slowly normalizing. The true test will come when we let Diva out on Monday. I'm still not sure how to establish an eating routine with her so Ra doesn't eat all her kibble. Probably try the way I do with Jazz--offer her her bowl when I'm watching her in the office while I'm on the computer. I don't know. I'm a bit nervous about it all, really. But she can't stay in the guest room forever...We'll figure it out.
