He was on 6ccs of Enulose for the lack-o-downloading, but after he came home from the hospital he started having liquipoos. Decreased down to 3ccs and he was still having the same problem, so Dr. B told us to take him off of it as of Friday so he wouldn't get dehydrated. So now it's swung the other way and he's not had a download since Friday. Sigh. :/ Unsure if it was the Enulose causing the liquipoos or if it's one of his new meds or what it could be, but now he's not had any sort of download since Friday afternoon (his last dose of Enulose was Friday morning). This is obviously problematic. :( I'm to call Dr. B with a status update tomorrow morning, which I have a feeling, is going to be bad news for Ra. :/ For those of you who might not know...when cats don't download for too many days in a row, or there is a chronic problem with it, there's a disorder called megacolon that can develop, which results in the colon not being able to contract as well, leading to even more problems with downloading. This is obviously A Bad Thing to be avoided at all costs...

His eating has been hit-or-miss depending on where he is on the dose of the Mirtazepine (appetite stimulant). He does very well right after a dose, for obvious reasons, but as he gets closer to the next due dose (every 72 hours), his appetite really starts to peter out. Called the VCA on Thursday to let them know about that/ask for advice, and the doctor I spoke with said if his appetite flagged too badly we could give the pill every 48 hours if necessary. The key is to keep him eating enough to stave off fatty liver disease from not eating enough for too long. The other key is to not have him dependent on the Mirtazepine to eat...It's a dicey situation...

He's perked up some since coming home; he's still pretty quiet compared to his usual self, but not as scary quiet and lethargic as he seemed when he first came home and was still affected by the anesthesia from the endoscopy. He's a bit more like his old self, jumping better again, not moving as slowly. Hell, he was even atop Cat Fort Alpha in the den on Friday night! :) All good signs, but both J and I know he's nowhere nearly out of the woods health-wise yet...

Tried to find out more about his test results on Friday afternoon, but internal medicine was not in on Friday so I spoke with an ER doctor, who wasn't able to give me much information because she did not have the expertise to interpret all the data that came back. What she could tell me was that Ra showed high numbers for pancreatitis, something that can go hand in hand with active IBD. I don't know if it's true, as I have not googled for more information on the topic, but both the doc and J say that there's no real treatment options for pancreatitis that we're not already doing, so all we can do is wait for it to calm down on its own.

The good news is the internal medicine folks will be back in tomorrow, so I plan on calling first thing to see what I can find out. We're still pretty scared for our boy... :/
