You know what I do. I keep a word doc on my desktop simply called LJ.doc. When I want to compose a journal entry, I open that up, compose it there, then save. Then I cut and paste into LJ. The dual advantage here is a) LJ never makes an entry vansih b) you have cumulative record of everything you wrote on LJ so if it ever goes belly up for good, you won't lose all that writin'
I really hate that. I hate it a lot. It's happened to me with 2 major updates in the past. One of them just never got redone, because there were other factors involved.

I usually just highlight and copy what I've posted before I hit "post entry." That way, if it flakes out, I can just paste it into a new entry.
Fortunately, I haven't had any problems in a month or two. *knock wood*
