There Was A Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me, Brooke Shields. (Kindle edition) 4 out of 5 stars.

From Amazon:
"Brooke Shields never had what anyone would consider an ordinary life. She was raised by her Newark-tough single mom, Teri, a woman who loved the world of show business and was often a media sensation all by herself. Brooke's iconic modeling career began by chance when she was only eleven months old, and Teri's skills as both Brooke's mother and manager were formidable. But in private she was troubled and drinking heavily.

As Brooke became an adult the pair made choices and sacrifices that would affect their relationship forever. And when Brooke’s own daughters were born she found that her experience as a mother was shaped in every way by the woman who raised her. But despite the many ups and downs, Brooke was by Teri’s side when she died in 2012, a loving daughter until the end.

Only Brooke knows the truth of the remarkable, difficult, complicated woman who was her mother. And now, in an honest, open memoir about her life growing up, Brooke will reveal stories and feelings that are relatable to anyone who has been a mother or daughter."

Being as though Brooke is close to my age, I watched her as her child actor/model career blossomed during the 70s and 80s. I remember how vilified her mother was for letting Brooke do such so many sexy roles and ads. I also remember, later in her life, when Brooke separated herself from her mother career and financial wise. Their relationship always piqued my curiosity, so when I discovered Brooke had written a book about the relationship, I pounced and bought it. It did not disappoint. A poignant, touching, and (at times) heart wrenching yet entertaining read. Brought back a lot of memories of my childhood from when I followed Brooke's career avidly (even though my parents would NEVER allow me to see any of her movies, LOL).

I finally have my Invisalign all set up as of yesterday morning. Interesting process, nothing like I imagined it! First off, the "buttons" that'll be used to help move my teeth and jaw along are actually affixed to my teeth directly and not as part of the trays that I insert over my teeth as I had thought they'd be. I thought the buttons would be softish and pliable and stuck on the inside of the trays somehow, but now that I think of it, those buttons wouldn't stay affixed to the trays with all the removing and replacing the trays on the teeth that goes on, so...yeah. It does make sense that the buttons are affixed directly to the tooth.

Said buttons are of differing shapes and sizes and in differing places on my upper and lower teeth, mostly in the front where most of the crowding of teeth is. The buttons are pretty hard, akin to tooth filling material. There are LOTS of them, too--I've got a lot of movement to achieve in both teeth and jaw. That's why they wanted an hour for that first appointment, and I daresay it took a little longer than that! They taught me how to best remove the trays in order to keep the buttons from coming off my teeth--they made it look so easy, too, LOL. I've had to take my trays out a few times now and it is getting easier every time I do it, so...yeah. While there are more buttons on the upper teeth than the lower, the lower tray is more difficult to remove. Dr. A suggested a small gauge plastic crochet hook to help with its removal since my fingernails are weak and bendy and not strong enough to wedge under the tray to pop it out. :/

Asked about dietary restrictions and, as I expected, no eating of any sort with them in. No soda or coffee/tea with anything added to it, either, while the trays are in because the acids in same will build up between the trays and the teeth. Plain black coffee/tea is fine, but not in large quantities or my trays will discolor. Brush thoroughly after drinking and eating before putting the trays back in. Goal is to have the trays in for at least 22 hours per day. Good luck with that one, LOL. Clean the trays with denture cleaner tablets every few days (I'll probably go for every day because I'm that anal) or toothpaste and no alcohol on the trays (as in meds and mouthwash/rinses). Of course my favorite post-brushing rinse is ACT restoring rinse which has alcohol in it; at least we haven't broken the seal on the most recent bottle we purchased so I can still exchange it for something without alcohol in it.

Got two sets of trays to start wearing on 3 February and 17 February respectively, go back for adjustments and two new sets of trays on 3 March. They gave me a mini toothbrush to clean out the trays, a nice tray case, and two sets of these rubber tubes called "chewies" that I'm supposed to chew on once my trays are initially in to set them in properly. Stopped at the grocery store when I got home to pick up a crochet hook, a denture bath, some denture tablets, and two folding travel toothbrushes so I can carry a brush and toothpaste with me when I dine out so I can put my trays back in right away. Also ordered an additional case so I have a spare so I can leave one in the bathroom or in my coat pocket/purse.

Slept relatively poorly the first night with the trays in, which I expected. Kept them in the whole night, though, which was an accomplishment! Only a tiny bit of discomfort this morning that was mostly taken care of with extra strength Tylenol. Robin the tech suggested Ibuprofen if the discomfort got worse, which I figured on my own, LOL.

I even registered my Invisalign online! I'm that geeky! :P I didn't have all the treatment info that I needed so I had to call my dentist's office and ask some questions and they said I was the first person from their practice that they knew of that had gone online and registered! :) Go me, I guess? :P All my info is there on my profile, just need a new picture of my face with a toothy smile to add to my profile, which I'll probably have J take of me later tonight.

So yeah. $Pricey cosmetic dentistry has commenced. Now all that's left is everything... ;)
