Ra is J's kitteh. He's 14 years old and has a history of chronic pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel disease. The IBD is controlled with prednisone, which he gets 2.5mg of daily. He could be on a special diet for the pancreatitis, but he's currently not.
For the past three weeks or so he's been on a slow decline of vomiting bile and gradually losing his appetite. We started logging his food intake and number of times he vomited about two weeks ago to be sure there was a problem. We didn't take him in right away because he HATES the car ride and the vet--gets so agitated during both he usually vomits and shits in the carrier and he gets borderline aggressive with the vets and techs who handle him. We were hoping it would rectify on its own...
Logging things really brought things into perspective; J decided on Tuesday he should go in on his work from home day today. J has to bring him because he has to help the vet and the techs handle Ra; I'd try but I don't want to get mauled by a scared wild cat anymore than the vet or the techs do...
Got him to the vet without him puking in the carrier til we got him in the door of the cat clinic. He then started to become really agitated, growling and hissing. He growled and hissed his way through the physical exam, during which it was discovered he's down about 4 pounds since November of '11 :(. He really growled and hissed through the blood draw. Dr. D decided it would be best for us to try to do the urine capture for the urine sample--sent us home with special litter, a syringe and a test tube for the sample. Poor guy!
While it smelled in the car like he took a shit in the carrier for good measure on the way home, turns out it was only hot air, thank Bast! He vomited again when we brought him in the house right before we released him from the carrier in the guest bath.
We'll have the blood results by tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully I'll have a urine sample to bring in by tomorrow morning...
We're both hoping and praying it's merely a flare of one of his current chronic conditions that can be fixed relatively easy with meds and/or special diet. I have a nagging suspicion that something new is hovering over the horizon; it's not like Ra to ignore a fresh food bowl, but yet still beg and cry to be fed every 15 minutes...
If you would, could you please include Ra and us in your rituals/prayers/healing thoughts? He could use some help...
