Yep, Diva's output still doesn't match her intake. Not even close. I had her up to 1/2 teaspoon of Miralax twice a day and got nothing in return. So I called Dr. K. at the vet's office and asked if there was any maximum amount of Miralax I could give Diva or if it's safe to keep adding on until she's putting out something.
He did a little research, and it turns out there's no maximum I have to watch out for. So he suggested adding another dose to the two I'm already giving her--up to 1/2 teaspoon three times a day. He (along with several people on the CRF support list) also suggested trying to add canned pumpkin or baby food squash to her food to bulk her up and also add extra water, which should help her go. Additionally I asked about if I should bother trying to give her benefiber again--he said it couldn't hurt, might as well try--1/4 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon a day.
Try finding a small can of pumpkin, especially this time of year! :/ So I opted for Gerber 2nd foods squash. I figured it was only like 70 cents for the jar of the stuff, if she wouldn't eat it mixed in her food, then no big loss. If she did actually eat it, I would probably be able to use the whole jar before you're supposed to toss it in three days...
I waited til this morning to try it, figuring the hungrier she was, the more likely she would be to eat her food if it tasted odd to her. I put about a small metal eating spoon worth in with her iron supplement feed first thing. I was curious so I sniffed it--didn't really smell like anything. No, I didn't taste it! Ugh, squash! Anyway...She GOBBLED IT ALL RIGHT DOWN!!! It's worth shouting, LOL. Tried it again with her first dose of Miralax about an hour later. She gobbled it down again, as if nothing were amiss!! YAY!!!
Last night with the three 1/2 teaspoon doses of Miralax I did get a small BM from her, but nothing worth shouting about. Hopefully with the new dosing schedule on the Miralax and the addition of the squash and benefiber will present better results. ***Fingers Crossed***
